Ok so when I bought my house I got a tax abatement for 14 years on my house, meaning I don't have to pay any taxes to the city of Richmond for that period of time. That rules. But it sucks because my mortgage automatically charges me for taxes each month (which would be good if I paid taxes) so now the city owes me money for 1.5 years of taxes. I'm finally seeing some of that back this week, which rules, and I'm setting up my mortage payment each month to not take the taxes out so my payment will be lower! And rent will be lower for my roommates!
